Here's a quick little update on what's been going on with Masyn Kristine Langham over the past few weeks. At 28 weeks, little Masyn decided she would flip to breech presentation. This was right about the time my doctor said "sure" when I asked if we could do a 3D/4D ultrasound just for fun. We had been doing weekly ultrasounds on the labor unit while I was at work, but I was ready to see a 3D image by an ultrasound tech. Unfortunately, that "fun" ultrasound ended up getting me a trip to the perinatologist. Masyn was measuring about 2 weeks behind and my amniotic fluid index was low. My Ob was not too concerned but said I may as well see the perinatologist to confirm doppler studies (make sure bloodflow was adequate to her organs).
The perinatologist reassured us that everything looked fine with Masyn, but that she WAS measuring behind. After Braylin weighed in at 8lb 3oz on her birth day, I was shocked that they were saying Masyn might be smaller -- Usually 2nd babies are larger! But all we cared about was that baby looked good overall, and the perinatologist was not concerned. He said it appeared that her growth restriction was probably just from her breech presentation. Though he did want to continue seeing me every few weeks.
So, at 33 weeks Masyn was still looking great; however, my amniotic fluid had decreased. Since I work on the labor unit, the perinatologist knew how busy we had been and how much physical work/labor we had been having to do lately. So he put me on bedrest. I know, I know... most people kept saying "enjoy it!" but I absolutely love my job, love the girls I work with, and I'm a busy-body at home, so bedrest was not my idea of fun. That's ok though...whatever baby Masyn needed!
Now I'm at 36 weeks, drinking tons of fluid, and getting rest. Tomorrow's the big day where we find out when baby Masyn will be here. The plan is to do growth measurements and amniotic fluid index measurements tomorrow and decide whether or not we should deliver next week. Yes that's right...NEXT week! Though we are SO SO SO ready to see her and get our hands on her, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she can at least stay in 1 more week. I'd feel a lot more comfortable if she was closer to 38 weeks (at least) but if they feel it's time for her to come, then it's time. We'll have to see what they say tomorrow....
Ok so there's the update! And I must say that the plus of being on bedrest is all of my time with Braylin! She has been such a sweetheart lately, and I truly believe it's because I've been able to spend more time with her instead of at work. As much as I miss work, I have just eaten up my time with my little sweetheart. She is going to make such a great Big Sister!
